2004-05 Major Accomplishments

April
Barret Anspach is our 4th student to become a 'Morton Gould ASAP Young Composer.'

April 24 Nordstrom Recital Hall 8 PM Seattle Smphony Young Composer
Workshop Concert- Resident Composer Samuel Jones, and Maestro Schwarz presiding. Works performed by members of the Seattle Symphony.
Four of the nine young composers were Academy students:
Barret Anspach, Lauren McLaren, Daniel Miller, Michael Matlock.

April 23 Moore Theatre 7:30 PM
Lauren McLaren had her winning composition in the Seattle Youth Symphony's Young Composer competition performed.

Aprril 7 Sherman Clay, Seattle - Noon Piano Series:
Charles Lu (10) and Joshua Pielemeier (17) invited to perform.

April 4 Music Teachers National Assn. (MTNA) annual meeting in Seattle this year. Academy ensemble members invited to perform as part of Ms. Nancy Breth's presentation on chamber music: Charles Lu - piano, Lindsay Hillls - violin , Kyla Hills - violoncello. Coach: Brianna Atwell.

March 21-26 SYAMF Academy Winners:
Concerto: Joshua Pielemeier, piano, Marie Rossano, violin,
Camden Shaw, violoncello, Kathryn Ladner, flute,
Concerto Alternate: Lindsay Hills, violin

March 26 "Fiddler on the Roof" Edmonds-Woodway HS production:
Ashalyn Sims, voice & piano, performed the role of Tzeitel at Mountlake Terrace Auditorium.

March 6:
Joshua Pielemeier, 17, piano, performed with Everett Chamber Orchestra, Paull Elliott-Cobbs, Director, after winning the competition for this concert.

January 10, 3pm.
Lindsay Hills, violin, a winner of the Port Gardner Bay Chamber Orchestra performed the Romance in G Major by Beethoven at First Presbyterian Church of Everett. Jocelyn Chang, former Academy student, another winner performed the first movement of the Mozart Concerto No. 4 in D Major. Both winners are students of Academy String Chair, Kent Coleman. As a result of her essays and audition tape, Lindsay will be awarded a full sized violin for as long as she needs it from Tom Godes through his Godes String Instrument Library Trust in Minnesota.

January 11
Ashalyn Sims, 17, pianist (Willard Schultz), singer (Malya Muth), was awarded a Certificate of Honor for Outstanding Achievement in Music from Cascade Symphony Music Director, Michael Miropolsky.
Ashalyn was also chosen for the part of the elder sister in Edmonds-Woodway HS pending production of "Fiddler on the Roof."

January 8 - 2005
Four
Academy composers - Barret Anspach, Lauren McLaren, Daniel Miller, and Michael Matlock have been accepted into the Seattle Symphony Young Composer Workshop by Resident Composer, Samuel Jones.

December 2004
Lauren McLaren won the Seattle Youth Symphony Young Composer Competition. She will write a piece for a large wind ensemble for an April Performance. Lauren also won 3rd place in the National Young Composers Competition of MTNA.

November 11, 2004 7pm, Trio members: Danielle Johnson, Camden Shaw, Joshua Pielemeier perform a work by Faure at the Meydenbauer PAC, Bell - sponsored by the Puget Sound Steinway Society.

November 8, Faculty member, Eric Flesher, had a new composition performed at Meany Hall in the Contemporary Music program.

October 17
3:00 PM Composer & pianist, Barret Anspach, 16, had new work performed by the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra in Meany Hall, Univ. WA.

October 15, and October 16
8:00 PM Faculty member, award winning composer, Eric Flesher, had a work for Piano and Violin performed at the Frye Art Museum, Terry Street, Seattle - in the Seattle Composers Salon program.

October 14
Noon Pianists, Yukihide Nakada, 11, Ashalyn Sims, 15, and Joshua Pielemeier, 15 perform at Sherman Clay, Seattle (4th Avenue) in their NOON PIANO SERIES.

October 14 Conductor & cellist, Sean Glenn, 15, will conducted the orchestra at Edmonds-Woodway High School in the Grand Hall at 7pm.

October 9
1:00 PM Pianists, Yukihide Nakada, Denis Elizarov, Anne Case, Rebecca Jordan, and Ashalyn Sims performed at Bellevue Square as part of the PACE Event promoting the new Bellevue Performing Arts Center. PACE made a generous contribution to our Scholarship Fund for our participation.
