ACADEMY OF MUSIC NW MISSION

Our primary mission is to be and remain the premier
classical music academy for young performers and composers
(ages 4-18) in the Pacific Northwest.

MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT PERFORMANCE

Like the other major nonprofit, 501.c.3, performing organizations
in this region for talented children and youth:
Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Opera, Seattle Children's Theatre,
the Academy focus is on
preparing and presenting talented, highly trained,
musically informed, young performers
,

and preparing them for acceptance by the next level of major professional colleges and conservatories throughout the country.

Like the other top pre-professional performance oriented organizations
for children and youth, the Academy is the only classical music
academy that works at this level in this region
.

The quality of our chamber music coaches, conductors, private studio
and music study teachers, along with our remarkable results in
frequent award performances, student accomplishments, and
annual graduate acceptances,
all attest to the Academy's qualification, dedication, and success
in meeting our mission since 1997.

Advanced performance levels must begin with intense and
continuous music training from childhood.
All of today's outstanding worldwide performers began
with this level of early training.

Young classical musicians, composers, and conductors
thrive in a supportive environment with high standards,
total immersion and feedback from regular performance.

Academy performers consistantly win the majority of classical
music competitions for children and youth in this region,
giving young performers the opportunity to solo
with orchestras such as
:

The Seattle Symphony's Discover Music & Tiny Tots concerts,
Seattle Young Artist Music Festival's Concerto Winner concerts,
Seattle Chamber Music Festival's Emerging Artists concerts,
Music Teacher National Assn. concerts (local, regional national)
Washington Music Educators
concerts
All the Pacific Northwest regional symphony organizations' concerts.

Academy instrumentalists hold principal 'chairs' in the
Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras, and in
Bellevue, Cascade, and other regional youth symphony orchestras
where Academy students are also often selected to perform as
concerto soloists.

Academy pianists, singers, and chamber music performers
also win the opportunity to perform in the major

Piano Festivals and concerts (for children and youth)
Vocal Competition Award solo, choir, and choral ensemble concerts
Chamber Music Festival concerts
.

Academy Composers have won the opportunity to have their works
performed by regional orchestras and by members of the
Seattle Symphony in SSO's Young Composer Workshop concerts.

Academy composers have been accepted and have excelled in
every annual Seattle Symphony Young Composer Workshop,
under the direction of Samuel Jones, SSO's Resident Composer
.

Accomplishments are made possible by the combination of
talent, hard work, outstanding instrumental and vocal teachers,
an understanding of music and performance practice from
comprehensive music studies and regular performance in
solo, chamber music ensemble, chamber orchestra,
vocal and choral works, master classes, and workshops -
under the direction of professional teachers, coaches,
conductors, and guest artists
