Donations

All gifts are fully tax-deductible under IRS Section 501.c.3

The Academy of Music Northwest (like every nonprofit, pre-college music Academy in the country and most performance organizations) needs donations to meet 40 to 50% of its annual operating budget.

Tuition cannot cover normal expenses (just as ticket sales cover only partial operating costs for other performance oriented organization).

Gifts may be made by check, online credit card by PayPal

and by a one-time or annual pledge via mail, phone, or email (below).

Matching Fund donations double your gift. Donations are needed from individuals, families, businesses, corporations, and foundations. Donations to foundations (such as United Way or Seattle Foundation) may specify the Academy of Music Northwest as a partial, percentage, or total recipient.

IT IS CRUCIAL TO SUSTAIN THIS PROGRAM HERE because:
The Academy is the classical music preparatory organization in this region offering complete and comprehensive programs to gifted and dedicated young instrumental and vocal musicians.

Donations of any amount are ALWAYS needed and gratefully received by check, stock, trust, bequest, annuity, or real property donations such as real estate, vehicles, boats.

Except for the General Fund, all other funds are restricted to insure that donations are used according to donor wishes.

All gifts are gratefully accepted in any amount and at any time for:

General Fund

Donations without a specific designation go to the General Fund that supports all general operating functions without which no organization is sustainable: rent, insurance, faculty, staff, equipment, marketing, development, supplies.

Scholarships

Tuition for comprehensive pre-college music performance and essential music study classes for highly talented young students whose families simply cannot afford full tuition. Families do pay what they can.
We only offer scholarship support to pre-college level students who really need it. We also offer 10% sibling discounts to students in the Children's and Pre-College programs. Musical talent does run in families.

Master Classes

Essential programs by nationally recognized musicians who conduct master classes for soloists and chamber music ensembles.

Concerts

Direction, Recital hall costs, instrument moving, recording, DVD production, staffing, marketing, and printed programs for regular concerts by students, alumni, faculty, and guests.

Workshops

Special workshops provide important classes and progams such as sight reading skills, keyboard skills for string and wind players and singers, introduction to ensemble performance, repertoire classes, audition preparation. These classes are outside the basic curriculum of theory, ear training, composition history/literature, chamber music ensemble, vocal ensemble, and chamber orchestra performance.
Fees are paid to professional presenters.

Chamber Music Program

Direction, coaching, sheet music, music stands, and support for young musicians to be able to participate in small ensembles (trios, quartets) with professional coaches to perform standard classical chamber music literature in regular public concerts and fund raisers.

'In Memory of'
or "Honoring"

A gift to honor a special person / teacher/ family member may be restricted by the donor to a specific use or placed in the General Fund to be used where needed.

Endowment

Lifetime support for this much needed Pacific Northwest school that meets the needs of pre- college musicians, like the fine pre-professional youth programs of PNB (Ballet), Seattle Children's Theatre , and Seattle Opera.
The PNW has a pre-college classical music school for young musicians that fully prepares them for acceptance by the major U.S. music colleges and conservatories. Our graduate placement track record is 100% since 1997.

Other Special Funds:

New: June 2008

Ben's Piano Fund.
This fund pays to replace 12 year old Academy student Ben Watson's grand piano that was destroyed in the major flooding in December 2007 in the Chehalis region. His piano, sheet music, and everything else on the first (main) floor of the family home was totally destroyed. The family was rescued from their stairs in a boat, taken to a fire truck, and to a shelter. The family was finally able to return home in late May 2008.
Insurance covered none of the house expenses. When they bought the house they were told it was "'well above the flood line so flood insurance was not necessary". The house was rebuilt by themselves and with loans and volunteer work of family and friends. There was no money to replace Ben's piano. Ben was without a piano for 5 months, losing valuable time in his training. Depression was settling in. He knew his family had no way to provide another piano.
The Academy approached Lee Sumner, Manager of Prosser's Shoreline store who contacted Kerry Prosser, President of Prosser Piano and Organ, and they committed to making a miracle for Ben. He received a new $23,000. Young Chang 6'2 grand piano, voiced and tuned, for a total cost of $10,000.
The Academy's Bank, Frontier Bank (John Weber, Edmonds branch) provided a low cost loan to the Academy, and Ben's Piano Fund was established to pay for the piano.
Please help us complete this miracle. You can make a totally tax deductible donation to the Academy earmarked for Ben's Piano.
The family travels from Chehalis every Saturday so Ben can continue with his full studies at the Academy with 6 hours of work in lessons, chamber music ensemble, theory, composition, sight reading skills, and performance class. Ben's brother, Noah, 5, is also a student.
See before and after pictures.

Kent Coleman
Memorial Fund
Scholarships for students in the Coleman Violin Studio.
Kent was Academy String Chair 1997-2007.

Piano Fund
(Keys Club)

Secures and maintains essential, lifetime, Steinway pianos for the Academy for performance, rehearsals, practice, lessons, and class work. This fund needs ongoing support for debt reduction, maintenance for regular tuning and periodic voicing, and for additional pianos as needed to support continued growth.
In our first 11 years we paid off our original piano loan of $124K with a separate fund supported by individual annual payments of $180/year per member.
