JAN COLEMAN - String Chair (2007)
Teacher (violin/viola) and Director of the
Coleman Violin Studio. Jan continues in her full capacity as Director and
Teacher. A full partner with Kent for over 20 years, Jan continues in her role
as teacher, Director, and manager.
Simon James, 2nd Asst.
Concert Master, Seattle Symphony, solo performer, and owner/operation of Simon
James Studio, has accepted the responsibility of teaching the advanced students
in the studio. The studio engages in daily lessons, monthly recitals, concerts, auditions, master classes, workshops, and
competitions - all covered at the highest professional level.
KENT COLEMAN - Emeritus String Chair
Kent was Academy
String Chair from Sept. 1997 - June 2007.
Honorary String Chair (in memoriam). American String
Teachers Association "Outstanding Studio Teacher of the Year 2000" for
Washington State. Chairman of Strings and Chamber Music, Washington State Music
Teachers Association. B.A., Rice University, Shepherd School of Music. Music
Advisory Panel, Seattle Young Artists Music Festival. The loss of Kent Coleman
in June 2007 left each of us deeply grieved. We will continue to honor him as
Emeritus Chair. Kent was with us from 1997 - 2007. A memorial benefit was
held, and a Kent Coleman Violin Scholarship was established at the Academy.
WILLARD SCHULTZ -

Teacher, Performer, Accompanist, Collaborator, Lecturer,
Master Class presenter.
Faculty, Adamant Summer School for Pianists in Vermont. Helped developed the
Masters Degree program in performance and the parallel program for Performance
& Pedagogy at
U. Calgary. "Visiting Associate Professor and Artist Teacher"
at Washington State University (filling a sudden vacancy). Formerly: active
teacher and performer in the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts for over
twenty years; Head of Piano in Wuhan Conservatory, PR. of China for three
semesters; active presenter in conventions here and abroad, including the South
Bohemia Festivals in the Czech Republic. Mr. Schultz presented Pedagogy and
Master Classes recently in NY. His students consistently win major local,
regional, and national competitions.
NANCIE LINN SHAW - Chamber Music Ensemble Director
Viola, Violin. Orchestra Director, Newport HS.
Professional chamber music performer. Teacher, violin, viola. Conductor;
frequent clilnician and adjudicator in WA; faculty at Southern Oregon
University; performed in Ashland, OR, and continues to coach chamber music for
the Ashland Summer Chamber Music Festival.
Active performer on violin, viola,
and in chamber music.
ALAN FUTTERMAN - Chamber Orchestra Music Director
Former Music Director of the Dover Symphony, the Weierstrass Society Concerts of New York and the Bellevue Youth Symphony. He has conducted throughout Europe with the Zaccho Festival Orchestra and as Conductor-in-Residence for Jeunesse Musicale. Locally, Mr. Futterman is the Music Director of the Peninsula Ballet Orchestra, the Bremerton Symphony Orchestra and served on the faculty of Central Washington University for over 10 years. Mr. Futterman holds a Master's Degree from the Juilliard School and a Bachelor's Degree from the Manhattan School of Music. As a Doctoral candidate, he served as Assistant Conductor to Maestro Vladimir Kin of St. Petersburg and participated in master classes with Sir Georg Solti and Leonard Bernstein. An active composer, Mr. Futterman's works include Farrago and Fugue, the World Beat Dance Suites I and II and the Fiesta Mexicana, all commissioned by the Yakima Symphony.
NANCY ZYLSTRA - Soprano, Voice Program Director, Effective Sept.
2008.
Nancy
gained critical acclaim throughout the United States and in Europe for her
accomplished and expressive singing in varied repertoire. As an Early Music
specialist, she appeared in Seattle as a soloist in St. Mark's Cathedral's
annual performances of Handel's Messiah and in the Gallery Concerts series, and has
performed as a member of the vocal ensemble Circa 1600. She has also been a
soloist with the American Bach Soloists (San Francisco), the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Toronto), the Portland Baroque Orchestra, the Amsterdam
Baroque Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (San Francisco),
singing under such conductors as James De Priest, Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman,
and Nicholas McGegan. A member of the faculty of Oberlin's Baroque Performance
Institute, she has taught voice at the Cornish College of the Arts and Pacific
Lutheran University. Her recordings have appeared on the Erato, Koch
International, Wildboar, Gasparo, and Arkay labels.
DANIELA LANDOLFI - Soprano - Children's Program Director.
Academy faculty since 2002, Daniela
has taught Children's and Pre-College classes. Daniela attended the Manhattan
School of Music in New York City from the age of 2, where her major teacher was
her mother, Carol Macaulay, founding Director of the Academy Children's
Program (see listing below). Daniela's studies included theory,
ear training, sight singing, private and ensemble instruction in violin,
percussion, and voice. She pursued additional vocal education with private
teachers specializing in various vocal styles and techniques. She participated
in performances, solo and ensemble, both nationally and internationally
including Carnegie Hall and Medugorje, Bosnia. She has taught private voice
lessons, and performed in varied styles as part of different musical projects,
that included several CDs as soloist. She was also lead singer of the original
rock band, Inergroove, and is a worship leader for the Disciples of Christ, both
locally and nationally.
